In which Mattie links a binary teaching exercise

Using the Socratic method, it seems that you can teach third-graders to do binary arithmetic. Very neat.

    The end made me want to cry.

    I got to this:

    So we have

    0 zero
    1 one
    10 two
    11 three

    51) Uh oh, now we're out of numerals again. How do we get to four?

    THE FOUR'S COLUMN

    and I have to admit I was pretty impressed. Are third-graders really that smart? Surely he just made the whole thing up.

    But I want to believe, so...
